Sibling, Grandparent and Aunt/Uncle DNA Tests

Which test fits

• Grandparent test. One or both parents of the alleged father, plus the child. Both grandparents together give the strongest result.
• Sibling test. Two people who may share one or both parents. Including a known parent makes the result far more conclusive.
• Aunt or uncle (avuncular) test. A full sibling of the alleged father, plus the child.

Relationship tests are less direct than a parent-child test, so the laboratory designs each case individually. We confirm who should be tested with the laboratory before your appointment, so you don't run the wrong combination. Including the child's mother is free and almost always recommended.

Legal or private

The same chain-of-custody rules as a legal paternity test apply if you need the report for court or an agency. Tell us which you need when you book.

Who needs to attend and what to bring

• All participants at the same appointment where possible, each with government photo ID.
• For a minor, the consenting parent or guardian with ID. If the parents are not married, the mother's consent is required.
• Any court order, if one exists.
