What makes it "legal"
A legal test is the same laboratory analysis as a private test. The difference is how the samples are collected and documented:
- Every participant's government photo ID is verified and copied.
- A neutral collector with no connection to anyone being tested performs and witnesses the swab, following the laboratory's chain-of-custody procedure.
- Each sample is labeled, signed by the participant, and sealed in tamper-evident packaging in front of you.
- A chain-of-custody form travels with the samples and stays on file at the laboratory.
- Participants never handle the kit before or after collection, and never ship their own samples.
The laboratory issues a notarized hard-copy report by mail to the address you choose, plus a PDF.
Who needs to attend
- Alleged father and child, at the same appointment.
- Mother, optional but free and recommended. Her sample makes the statistical result stronger.
- If the child is under 18 and the parents are not married to each other, the mother must consent, in person or by signed consent. A court order can replace her consent.
What to bring
- Government photo ID for every adult.
- For a minor, the consenting parent's ID and, if you have it, the child's birth certificate.
- A court order, if one exists.
- The address where the notarized report should be mailed.
At a glance
Turnaround is the laboratory's typical processing time after samples arrive plus overnight shipping. Weekends, holidays and quality re-tests can add time.
Common questions
Will the court accept this test?
Courts and agencies set their own rules. Our collection follows the chain-of-custody procedure they commonly require, and analysis is performed by an independent AABB-accredited laboratory, the accreditation courts and agencies commonly require. If your matter is already in court, ask the court or your attorney whether a privately arranged test is acceptable or whether testing must be ordered through the court.
Can the father and child come at different times?
Everyone attends the same appointment. The laboratory must receive the samples together, which is also what lets us include the mother free and return the result fastest. If a participant cannot attend, they are booked as an additional participant ($129) and we coordinate the case with the laboratory.
Who receives the results?
Only the people named on the consent forms, by the delivery method chosen at your appointment. Paying for the test does not by itself entitle someone to another adult participant's report.
Is it private?
Yes. Your appointment is in a private office, and results are released only to authorized recipients. We do not store results in marketing or booking systems.
